Fuerteventura with essea living
“Nature is painting for us, day after day, pictures of infinite beauty” – John Ruskin
A direct encounter between earth and sky, these are the horizons in Fuerteventura.
Straightforward, clean. Like the profiles of the mountains rising linear and homogeneous.
The vegetation is poor and flattened to the ground, as if it didn’t want to disturb the adherence of this encounter.
The sky is near, a continuous search for points of contact with the vast pristine flat lands.
The air is transparent, less dense, it purifies and lightens, taking away what is not needed.
The earth is sincere, it manifests itself in its nakedness, for what it is, its energy emerges often and suddenly.
The wind and the ocean waves move the horizons.
Sitting on the veranda, after our daily exploration of the island, I enjoy the silence that extends into the surrounding landscape: the flat and uniform plains are dominated by the sacred mountain of Tindaya and the aridity of the earth, at times red and at times lighter, is lost in the blue of the ocean in front of me, where I know that one of the most spectacular and wild beaches on the coast is hidden, Playa de Jarugo. I feel perfectly relaxed and after a long time I can perceive the sense of space in its most essential meaning, that healthy void where anything can happen. A Chinese proverb comes to my mind: a vase is worth for what it can contain, and its emptiness makes its use possible.
The mind as well gets free and I breathe the light, the materiality of the earth and every shade of colour that this island has to offer.
I get lost in the beauty of the landscape that surrounds me, its profiles defined by the sky, and I can’t wait to continue discovering this harsh and fascinating piece of land in the middle of the ocean.
