Businesses that are good for the world

“The nature’s complexity and intelligence show us the guidelines to manage companies and to assign the role to each player within them, with the awareness that the profit does not create value, but the creation of value does generate profit” – Massimo Mercati, MD of Aboca

More and more often, aspects like the impact on the environment and the social responsibility, together with the economic figures, are key in the evaluation of the success of a company.

Though good financial performances are necessary, we are also more conscious that other focuses that benefit or at least do not damage the planet and the communities, are mandatory and this approach is changing first of all the concept and the definition of business, but also the management’s modalities, the strategies and the evaluation of the results of a company.

Especially among new generations, it is not enough to find balance between professional and personal life, but these two dimensions have to be integrated: we want to dedicate our time and efforts to do something we are passionate about, gaining in this way both the goal of financial income and the need of finding a meaningful purpose in life.

Creating value is more often the main goal of an organization, in the belief that sharing a. strategy aimed at the creation of value leads to a series of business opportunities that in the medium-long term are generating more profitable scenarios.

The purpose which a business has been created for and the intention behind a project gain a primary role in defining the guidelines of the company plans and governance.

As Jay Coen Gilbert, Bart Houlahan e Andrew Kassoy, Co-founders B Lab in the preface of the American edition of the The B Corp Handbook write “… your kids and your grandkids will demand more from work than a paycheck. They will demand a purpose. They will demand more from business than products that are made cheap, fast, and disposable. They will demand products and services that create a positive impact in the world”.
